Mulino Bonacasa , built 1880 in Mazara del Vallo The mill ( pasta factory ) was built in 1880 by Andrea Bonacasa . A wonderful example of the first industrial revolution. There are still preserved some of the ancient gears and belts . Many machines for the making of pasta. The coal -fired mill required a pile height of about 42 feet that offered a view over the city of Mazara and it was a reference point for the boats from the sea . During the Sicilian revolution , the owner opened the door for the hungry and angry public, and thanks to that the mill has not suffered the ravages of vandalism , as it happened in other factories in the area by the fierce resistance of the owners . About 300 employees worked In the mill until the First World War. It had closed its doors because the Italian government had not allowed that at least one of the two sons of the old founder came back from the front to run the company.
